Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is a common complaint among women. While the intensity of the pain might fluctuate, and the nature of the pain can vary, it often has an obscure cause. Pelvic pain can be categorized as acute, which means the pain is severe and sudden, or chronic, which means it either comes and goes or remains constant lasting for months or longer.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists designate pelvic pain lasting longer than six months and showing no improvement with treatment as chronic pelvic pain. Pelvic pain may originate in the genital area or in other organs in and around the pelvis. It might be psychological, which can make the pain feel even worse or cause a sensation of pain, when there isn’t a physical problem present.
